It was after the Sabbath, and the first day of the week. Just 2 days ago, they witness their Lord and Saviour being crucified and put at the cross. And He died.
What was it for them? They have put their hope in Jesus. They were putting their trust in Him to save them. But He end up dead, in a tomb. This Jesus who healed many, perform countless miracles and even raised the dead. They thought it was Him who will save Israel. They were at loss, they were confused. For many of them, their hopes and dreams died with him that day.
Nevertheless, on that Sunday, Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary came to see the tomb. They wanted to be near Him. When they reached the tomb, they met the angel who rolled back the stone from the door of the tomb,
“But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
Matthew 28:5-6 NKJV
They found the tomb empty!
And they recalled what He has said,
“Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”” John 2:19 NKJV
What does His resurrection meant for us today?
The resurrection confirmed that Jesus Christ is everything He said He would be. When the ladies came to the tomb that morning and heard the angel’s message, it was a culmination of everything Jesus had said before. The Bible says that He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:25)
In another translation,
“who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised up because of our being declared righteous.” Rom 4:25 (YLT)
At the cross, all our sins are on Him, He bore all the consequences of our sins on His body. He died our death. And Jesus proclaimed, “It is finished.”
And when God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day, He was raised for our justification. Him, being raised from the dead justify us. The crucifixion and the resurrection was the culmination that won our salvation and put us in right standing with God.
Jesus died, but He did not stay dead. He died but He was not defeated. The wages of sin is death. He conquered the last enemy, which is death. Death has no hold over Him.
It was written
“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
1 Corinthians 15:17
But with the resurrection, we are the most blessed.
To us who believes in Jesus
This is THE GOOD NEWS.
He died our death and we are raised in Him.
He is victorious above all.
He is risen and His name is above every other name. He is the King above all kings.
He is the life and the resurrection. Through Him we have life and life more abundantly. (John 10:10)
Because of Jesus, we can always have hope , for our hope is anchored not to earthly things, but to a living Saviour that sits now at the right hand of the Father.
